The death and suffering of livestock in some extremely pitiful cases compelled the sympathy of early visitors to the scene of destruction. A team of mules hitched near where the interurban building stood were killed, one horse was seen standing out in the midst of the ruins with lumber and tin piled high around him. He was wet and shivering from the cold. One eye was bursted out and a great bulky piece of flesh hung down leaving a gaping wound. The poor animal could not get out of the rubbish. Another horse was seen lying with a piece of timber that has pierced his body, striking him in the back and going through the body. It was this wound that killed the animal, which showed no other evidence of injury. Fine looking jersey cattle, calves sheep and hogs were found dead around the city.
