The post office was completely destroyed and following the cyclone the records, all registered and other mail was destroyed by fire. Postmaster N. A. Burton of McKinney went to Melissa a few hours after the cyclone and furnished the postmaster with the necessary supplies to continue the office there in temporary quarters.
