Twenty-five Negroes were taken from Melissa to McKinney by ambulance and were placed in McKinney's new hospital. Among others injured who were taken to McKinney were M.C. Hanson of Dallas, 39 years old, brakeman on the H. & T. C. Railroad; T. J. Hanson of Dallas, 33 years old, brakeman on the same train; W. L. Speeds of Dallas about 48 years old, who was conductor of the train.
The three were in the caboose of a northbound H. & T. C. train, which was in the path of the storm. Their car was rolled over three times and the men sustained body cuts and scalp wounds and bruises. None of them were dangerously injured. Everett Hardaway, H. & T. C. stationmaster at Melissa was also badly cut and bruised. Names of others were hurt could not be obtained. As most of them were cared for in the section of Melissa which was not hurt by the storm.
